A critical part of the healthy development of children and their families is identifying and strengthening synergies among the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program, the families who receive services, and primary care providers. Understanding the importance of this relationship, the Well-Child Visit CoIIN assists MIECHV awardees and their local implementing agencies with employing cross-sector partnerships and amplifying family voice to help children receive the well-child visits that are essential for lifelong health and well-being.

Home visiting can play a critical role in increasing preventive care by enhancing families’ understanding of the value of well care, mitigating barriers to access and attendance, reinforcing anticipatory guidance, and supporting caregiver self-efficacy to promote their child’s health and development. From January 2020 to March 2021, a dedicated group of MIECHV-funded state agencies (awardees) and local implementing agencies (LIAs), including parent leaders receiving home visiting services, explored and tested strategies that support families in completing their well-child visits. This brief outlines the journey of the Well-Child Visit CoIIN.
