New Topic: Accelerating Improvement

The Home Visiting Collaborative Improvement and Innovation Network (HV CoIIN) brings together Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program awardees and local implementing agencies (LIAs) to develop, test, and implement strategies, or “changes,” in priority topic areas in maternal and child health that can then be scaled to home visiting agencies across the country.

New Topic refers to the HV CoIIN’s pilot initiative. This means that MIECHV awardees and LIAs who participate in New Topic are testing innovative strategies to learn more about what leads to improvement in a specific topic area. At the end of each New Topic CoIIN, a playbook containing the most impactful strategies and resources is created, and the topic area becomes part of Lead the Change, which means that future cohorts will have the opportunity to scale well-tested interventions.

Since 2013, New Topic CoIINs have advanced the field by developing and testing strategies in areas such as Intimate Partner Violence, Well-Child Visits, and Staff Recruitment and Retention.

The current New Topic CoIIN (March 2024–March 2025) focuses on Caregiver–Child Interaction, engaging MIECHV awardees and LIAs to strengthen parent–child relationships and promote optimal developmental outcomes through everyday interactions in home visiting.
